About this tool

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the energy your body burns at complete rest. This tool uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the most accurate common formula: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age(years) + s, where s is +5 for men and −161 for women. The result is in kilocalories per day (kcal).

Total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) multiplies BMR by an activity factor: sedentary ×1.2, light ×1.375, moderate ×1.55, heavy ×1.725 and extra active ×1.9. TDEE estimates the calories you burn in a typical day; eat below it to lose weight and above it to gain. These are estimates for healthy adults, not medical advice. Everything is calculated locally in your browser — your data is never uploaded.
